The Lakers were originally from Minneapolis, before moving to Los Angeles during the 1960 season. The name Lakers comes from the region where the team was based as it was known as the Land of Lakes. Ultimately, the team was known as the Minneapolis Lakers and that is where the acronym MPLS comes from.
The 37-year-old German immigrant Ehrhardt Koch, a skilled craftsman, saw an opportunity to redesign the process used and the quality of "fashionable" caps. In 1920, his dream became a reality when he borrowed money from his sister Rose to found New Era Cap Co. His expertise and vision saw the company produce 60,000 Gatsby-style caps in the first year.
