The WNBA started in 1997, and is fully endorsed by NBA. The first game was played by the New York Liberty against the Los Angeles Sparks in Los Angeles. The WNBA logo, "Logo Woman", paralleled the logo of NBA and was selected from 50 different designs.
The beginnings
did you know that the WNBA started with eight teams? Four of them in the Eastern Conference (Charlotte Sting, Cleveland Rockers, Houston Comets and New York Liberty) and the other four (Los Angeles Sparks, Phoenix Mercury, Sacramento Monarchs and Utah Starzz) in the Western Conference.
